The market continues to chop around.
This is a pattern I expect to last for a while.
But as I’ve said, the odds are this chop will just be short-term before the rally resumes.
Chart of the Day
Last Friday’s dip ended the S&P 500’s streak of 68 straight days above its 20-day moving average (the longest streak since 1998).
The chart above catalogues all the times a 60-day or higher streak has ended – and how the index performed after.
As you can see, near-term choppy price action is the highest-probability outcome.
And considering that the stock market this year has been much more volatile compared to the past 10 years…
Don’t be surprised if the price action gets even choppier for even longer.
The good news?
If we look at what happened over the longer term after such streaks ended, you can see the odds are looking good.
My advice for what could be a turbulent month?
Follow the advice of the military.
