Corporate America Is Opening the Checkbook

Hey, Ross here:

Corporate America is sitting on a massive amount of potential buying power right now.

And more of it is about to be unleashed into the market.

Take a look:

Chart of the Day

Through August 10, U.S. companies have announced roughly $1.12 trillion in stock buybacks.

And a surprisingly large chunk of the biggest authorizations are coming from outside technology.

Now, an authorization doesn’t mean all that money gets spent immediately.

Companies still decide when – and whether – to actually buy.

But this next chart shows why I’m watching it now.

During earnings season, many companies temporarily restrict their own share repurchases.

As those blackout periods end, they’re free to step back into the market.

And over the next several days, that buying window opens for a much larger share of the S&P 500.

So corporate demand that has been sitting on the sidelines can start coming back.

That’s supportive for stocks.

But there’s another lesson here that traders sometimes miss.

Insight of the Day

Not all buying is created equal.

If a company buys back $5 billion of its own stock, I pay attention.

But I also want to know who is actually doing the buying.

A corporate buyback uses company cash.

An index fund may buy because new money came into the fund.

A CEO buying shares personally is making a very different decision.

He already has his salary, career, and reputation tied to that company.

If he still reaches into his own pocket and buys more stock, I want to know about it.

The same logic applies elsewhere.

Some people simply have better access, better timing, or a better view of what’s developing than the average investor.

So when they start moving real money, I want that information on my screen.

Not so I can blindly copy them.

But because who is behind the trade can tell you a lot about how seriously to take it.

That’s something my team and I have spent the past several months working on.

We built a new platform called InsiderIQ.

And in just a few hours later today at 11 a.m. Eastern, I’m unveiling it LIVE.

It goes well beyond the corporate-insider activity you’ve seen me track before.

I’ll show you how we’re using it to follow corporate executives, politicians and other elite market players…

And reveal some of the top stocks U.S. representatives are trading right now.

Click here to lock in your free seat if you haven’t already…

And I’ll see you LIVE in just a bit at 11 a.m. ET.

P.S. If you’re planning to attend on a mobile device, make sure you download the presentation app now so you don’t miss anything when it starts. See you there.
